West Yorkshire’s Trusted Car Detailing Specialists

“Gleem Services arrived at the time agreed, very friendly and professional. Sean was very knowledgeable and even advised services that I had booked weren’t needed, saving me money (shows that he is interested in creating long term clients, than one of customers). Car was amazing when it was finished inside and out – enough for the neighbours to comment what a great job had been done.”

“I recently had the pleasure of using Gleem Services for some enhancements on my vehicle, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results! From start to finish, the experience was top-notch. They meticulously worked on my callipers, and they look absolutely fantastic! It’s the kind of transformation that makes you appreciate your car all over again!”

Tee, Google

My car is my pride and joy and whilst it is not the most glamorous of cars or the “poshes” it is absolutely paramount that it looks as good as it can so I was very nervous at the idea of handing it over to a detailer. Well my worries were absolutely unnecessary. Sean at Gleem is an absolute gem and a credit to detailers everywhere. I can’t thank Sean enough and from here onwards I will be returning everytime I need detailing work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about car detailing. If you’re looking to find out more about a detailing service for your vehicle, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to see how we can help enhance and protect your pride and joy.

What are safe wash techniques?

Most swirl marks and clear coat defects are inflicted when a car is washed. In order to minimise the risk of damage, a car detailer will use “safe wash techniques“. These include:

  • Pre-washing the paint with snow foam in order to soften the dirt so it can be easily rinsed away with a pressure washer before making contact with a wash mitt. Dirt is abrasive, so removing as much of this as possible before the contact wash is key to reducing swirls and marring.
  • High-quality car shampoo is used in combination with a two-bucket method, so the wash mitt can be rinsed in a clean bucket of water between panels to reduce dirt build-up.
  • Microfibre wash mitts are used for the wash process instead of abrasive brushes and sponges.
  • Microfibre towels and compressed air are used to dry the vehicle, instead of abrasive tools such as chamois leather, squeegees, and bath towels which cause micro-scratches.

What is a “two bucket wash”?

The two-bucket wash method uses one bucket for soapy water and a second bucket for clean rinse water. After wiping a panel with your wash mitt, you rinse it in the clean water bucket before dipping it back into the soapy bucket. This helps prevent dirt and grit from getting back onto the mitt and scratching your vehicle’s surface.

What are the benefits of a car detailing service?

The benefits of car detailing include:

  • The removal and minimisation of clear coat scratches and swirl marks results in an extremely glossy finish.
  • The application of high-quality protection in the form of a ceramic coating or PPF, helps preserve the enhanced appearance.
  • A professionally detailed vehicle will often have an improved resale value and be more desirable.
  • It delivers that “new car feeling” again.

What chemicals do you use in your detailing services?

We use high-quality chemicals specifically formulated for use on automotive surfaces. We are certified by Wax is Dead®, a leading brand in the car detailing industry known for their outstanding performance. The types of chemicals we use include:

  • Alloy wheel cleaners: formulated to safely remove brake dust and road film.
  • Snow foam: applied and rinsed before contact washing to remove as much dirt as possible and dramatically reduce the chance of inflicting swirl marks.
  • Car shampoo: designed to offer a slick-feel so grime can be safely lifted from the surface without inflicting damage.
  • Tar remover: utilises solvents which carefully and effectively dissolve tar spots.
  • Iron fallout remover: dissolves embedded iron contamination which builds up on the paintwork and causes it to feel rough.
  • Polishes and compounds: abrasive liquids which are used in the machine polishing process to remove swirl marks and scratches.
  • Panel wipe solution: removes oils and residues left from the polishing stage, so that the protection (e.g. a ceramic coating) can bond to the paint without interference.
  • Ceramic coatings: liquid polymers which when left to cure, form a hard shield over the surface to protect it and lock in the gloss.
  • Glass cleaner: formulated to be safe on tinted windows and leave a streak-free finish.
  • Interior & leather cleaners: designed to safely deep clean the cabin.
  • Tyre dressing: evens out the finish of the rubber, and keeps the tyre cleaner between washes.

What is the difference between car detailing and valeting?

Detailing goes several steps further than valeting in order to enhance and preserve the finish of a vehicle. Valeting focuses on cleaning, whereas detailing also includes restorative processes such as machine polishing to remove swirl marks and enhance gloss. Detailing services also include the application of high-quality protection (ceramic coatings and PPF) to preserve the finish. Please visit our article comparing detailing and valeting services to learn more.

Do new cars need detailing?

New cars greatly benefit from car detailing services and are highly recommended if you want to preserve that “new car feeling”. Most brand-new cars sadly come with paint defects which are either inflicted at the factory, or at the dealership when the vehicle is prepped for collection. Machine polishing will address these defects and make the vehicle actually look brand-new. Having your vehicle protected with a high-end ceramic coating or PPF, will also protect the finish so it stays looking fresh, and is much easier to clean.

Does a car need machine polishing before applying a ceramic coating?

It is very important to polish a car before applying the ceramic coating for two reasons:

  1. If a coating is applied over a scratched and swirled surface, the finish will be locked in with the coating. That’s why it needs to be polished first in order to achieve a glossy finish which can then be protected by the coating.
  2. Polishing helps to prepare the surface and remove any previously applied protection. If this is not removed from the surface, the coating will be unable to bond properly and the installation will fail.

What is the difference between a wax and a ceramic coating?

Ceramic coatings are far superior to waxes for a variety of reasons including:

  • Ceramic coatings can last for up to 10-years, whereas waxes typically only last 2-3 months.
  • Ceramic coatings are harder than waxes, so shield the car significantly better from environmental contamination.
  • Coatings are slicker and more hydrophobic, helping to keep the car cleaner between washes.

What is the difference between paint enhancement and correction?

Paint enhancement is designed to boost gloss and depth of colour, but does not address clear coat scratches and swirl marks. A paint correction service will remove or minimise the appearance of clear coat defects which are otherwise highly visible under direct light. Depending on the severity of the defects, either a single-stage, two-stage or multi-stage paint correction may be required to achieve the desired finish. If you’re unsure what your vehicle needs, we can advise on the best option to suit your budget and requirements.

Why should I choose a professional car detailing service?

Professional car detailing services offer the following benefits:

  • The work is completed in a controlled, indoor environment which is free from dust and maintained at appropriate temperature and humidity levels. This ensures that the best results are achieved during the paint correction and protection stages.
  • Professional detailers have access to premium ceramic coatings which can only be purchased by certified installers. This means your car will be protected with higher quality products which last significantly longer compared to consumer-level alternatives.
  • Professional detailers with training and certification are highly skilled and experienced, meaning your vehicle will be treated with the utmost care and level of attention.

Is car detailing worth it?

Car detailing services are worth it if you want to preserve the finish, and enjoy the feeling of driving in a car which looks brand-new. It can also increase the resale value of the vehicle, and make maintenance significantly easier.
